Our sweet baby Luca turned 7 months old on May 21. I think that I say this with each passing month, but it doesn’t make it any less true – I can’t believe how fast our baby is growing! He is now officially closer to one than being a newborn, which is definitely bitter sweet. I can’t wait to watch him grow, but I also want to keep him small. I think that most parents share those feelings. Since I completely neglected to post his 6 month update, I’m going to combine months 6 and 7 in one blog post. Let’s go!
At his 6 month check-up, Luca weighed in at 19 pounds 11 ounces and was 28 inches tall. I assure you that my mouth all but hit the floor when I learned of his height and weight. At only 6 months, Luca was a mere pound away from what Jonah weighed when he turned one. It totally blows my mind how different the boys are! Even though he’s chubby, he is still considered underweight for his height. His pediatrician said that he is a very healthy baby growing right on track. We are pushing the limits of size 3 diapers. After we finish up this last box of size 3, we are going to make the switch to size 4. As far as clothing goes, he’s currently in 9 month and 12 month clothing. He definitely needs 12 month-sized pants, simply for the length. We’re moving into summer though, so we won’t really have to worry about that for much longer. In the summer we live in shorts, rompers, and sometimes even just onesies.
He is still eating every 3-4 hours, and he’ll take a 6 ounce bottle each time. We’ve also incorporated some purees into his diet. There hasn’t been one that he doesn’t like! Prunes, peas, green beans, carrots…you name it, he loves it. He especially loves fruit, but he’s never rejected a veggie! We typically give him 4 ounces of fruit in the morning and 4 ounces of a veggie at night. I’m so excited for summer vacation so we can get him more into a routine. As we approach the 8 month mark, we will also start leaning more toward the Baby Led Weaning approach. He eats off a spoon like a pro, and is a very clean eater! It amazes me how clean this little one is after a meal. We’re still on the same nighttime schedule, too. His last bottle is between 8 and 9 o’clock, and then he’s down for the night. Lately he’s been waking up around 4 or 5 o’clock for another bottle, but after he’s fed he goes right back down. We really can’t complain! He’s a great sleeper, and we are so thankful for that.
Similar to the last update, Luca’s napping habits aren’t the greatest. He follows a pretty regular schedule of eating, playing, and sleeping – but it’s been difficult to get him to nap for an extended period of time. He is definitely a cat napper these days – 20 minutes here, 20 minutes there. Occasionally (especially on weekends when we are home) we will get a solid two or three hour nap in his crib. I’m really hoping that this summer we are able to get into a better routine. It’s so hard when we aren’t home during the day!
Luca has been sleeping through the night since he was 2 months old, and for this we are so thankful and blessed. Every once in awhile, he’ll decide to wake up and want to play in the middle of the night. It’s so hard to be upset when he’s just lying there all smiley and giggling. He’s such a happy little soul!
I know that the dynamic between the boys will change on a daily basis (sometimes I see that happening even now), but these two LOVE each other. Jonah is such a good helper and loves to play with Luca. He is always offering him toys, tickling him, making him laugh, and wanting to help feed him. Jonah has handled this transition so wonderfully, he truly is a wonderful big brother!
Our sweet baby Luca, you are the sunshine of our lives. You smile constantly, and are so observant and you tolerate your big brother’s shenanigans so well. He loves you so much, and I know you’re just a baby – but you love him too. It shows in how you look at him. I can’t wait to watch you two grow up together! You are starting to get up on all fours and rock back and forth. I am thinking that you’ll probably be crawling by the end of this month. Sometimes, you even forego the whole “on your fours” thing, and actually lift your knees up into a planking position. Daddy and I are thoroughly impressed!
You are on your own little schedule, which makes you fairly predictable. After you eat, you love to play…then you’ll start to fuss which means you are tired. After some snuggles with Mommy and cuddles with your favorite blanket – you are out like a light. You love all food, and have even started eating some solid food. Solid foods you’ve had so far are: bananas, spaghetti, green beans, and potatoes. You love it all, and it’s so fun to see your face as you try new things and experience new textures. Your favorite toys right now are basically anything that Jonah is playing with, and he is surprisingly okay with that! You love to be outside and feel your toes in the grass. Going for walks in your stroller is another thing you love – and you recently had your first visit to the park. You LOVED the swings! We love you so much, little love, and can’t wait to see what the next month has in store!
