My Monthly Goals: June 2015

I can’t believe it’s June! Although sometimes I felt like summer would never get here, the end of the school year came more quickly than I had thought it would. We’re already on day number 5 of summer vacation, and being home with my boys is such a gift. I’m working on a summer schedule, mostly for Jonah, so that he can get into more of a routine here at home. I say schedule loosely, because if anyone is going to break routine, it’s going to be me – and I’m okay with that!

I have been working on monthly goals this year instead of creating one big resolution that I end up ditching at the end of January. It’s been working out really nicely, and I’m doing a much better job at meeting those goals. I blogged about my March goals, but never got around to grading them or blogging about my April and May goals. Pardon the little absence, but I’m back and ready to tackle my June goals!

1. Work out three times a week
Since I failed miserably at getting up every day at 5:00 in the morning to exercise during school, I’m going to try and work my way back into exercising every day. I am going to try and work out three times a week, whenever I can. Twice a week is only 12 times in a month, which just sounds so much more do-able. It is my hope to work up to working out 5 times a week in July!

2. No soda for the month of June
I’ve given up regular pop for months now, but I still enjoy the occasional Coke Zero or diet pop every once in awhile. This month, I’m saying goodbye to any form of pop. And I know you soda people are rolling your eyes at me right now. I’m sorry I’m not sorry, it’s a Western Pennsylvania thing. Hah!

3. Take pictures of the boys with my DSLR each week
I have an iPhone 6+ and it is so much easier to whip that thing out for pictures of the boys rather than pull out my big girl camera. I need to change that though, because the quality of my new camera far exceeds that of my iPhone. I’ve been awful with pictures lately, which isn’t like me. It’s definitely time to step up my game!

4. Organize the files on my computer
Being a blogger and photographer takes a toll on my computer! I blog and run my photography business from my iMac, and while I’d like to think I’m an organized person, I sometimes have a habit of letting my files “go”. I shoot RAW with my camera, and those files are HUGE! I need to go through and transfer all of my RAW files to my external hard drive, but I’ve been putting it off. I want to get that done this month!

5. Plan our summer getaways
We aren’t going to the beach this year, partly because Luca is so young, but mostly because I won’t be getting any paychecks this summer due to my maternity leave. Instead, we’d like to plan a handful of small trips for the boys. Some places I’d like to visit this summer include Sesame Place, DelGrosso’s, Knoebels, Idlewild and Soakzone, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, and a few others. Mostly, we’re going to be hanging around home and soaking up the sun while swimming all day. Sounds great, right?

Did you set goals for yourself this month? What are they?

  1. Small trips are great! Big vacations can get so expensive I can not imagine adding children when pricing a vacation! I need to get in a groove of working out as well, I really want to start running again but it’s been so long I don’t think I can handle it. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Small trips ARE great! They are perfect for little ones, too, because you can return to normalcy a lot quicker 😉 Good luck with your running!

  2. I love this idea of doing monthly goals. I think it helps keep your month more well-intentioned! I think I’m going to start doing this! xx Kristen

  3. i love making lists, which is why I think I enjoy reading people’s list of goals. It also inspires me to make my own. I’m with you on working out, taking more pics and planning trips. I’d like to keep exercise simple, to just walking on my treadmill since I had a baby 7 weeks ago. My body hasn’t seen exercise in MONTHS! And last summer I made a summer bucket list of activities and need to get on that again. Good luck achieving what you’ve set out for yourself this month. -Misty

  4. Great goals – I love that you’re starting out small with your workout goal and working your way up – I’ve found, personally, that’s the best way to do it!

  5. I like this idea. I LOVE LOVE LOVE organization and the idea of having mini goals each month is awesome!! I feel like there is never enough time to do anything with a 2yr old and 8m old. Cant wait to start my monthly goals 🙂

  6. I am so with you on numbers 1 & 2. They’re both so hard for me! Every time I decide I’m giving up soda…that’s then, all I crave. Of course, right? Good luck with all of your goals!

    1. Seriously! I totally get where you are coming from and feel the same way! Grrr. Thanks so much for stopping by today – I really appreciate it! 🙂

  7. Your simple yet straightforward goals are totally motivating me. Sometimes I set such lofty and long term goals that they are really difficult to tackle. I love the idea of working out three times a week and no soda–they will definitely be great health improvements. Good luck!

    1. I’m glad that my post today is motivating you 🙂 I definitely agree with you – sometimes long term goals ARE difficult to tackle – and discouraging. This has been a great improvement from years past of setting goals and fizzling them out within a few months. Thanks for stopping by today 🙂

    1. It’s easy to let your files go, but harder to pull them under control if you wait too long! Phew. I need to sit down and do it – STAT! Thanks for stopping by, friend 🙂

  8. this sounds like an awesome list of goals.. I used to get up at 5am every other day to go the gym to lose the baby weight from baby 2… now I have NO IDEA how I did that. I must have been really motivated. I just cannot get back in that groove!

    1. That’s amazing Lauren! When I was on maternity leave after our 2nd child was born, I worked out every single day! That motivation is gone, and I desperately need it to come back. Sigh. Thanks for stopping by today. I’m so glad that you did!

  9. I love your goals! I always believe that you need to write things down, otherwise it is hard to get them done. I need to set goals for this month. I have been slacking, and I don’t feel good about it. Now that summer is approaching, it is very important to write goals. With vacation and loose schedule around the corner, I need to get organized before it’s too late!

  10. My favorite time of the year when I taught was the first days of summer break. They were so freeing and relaxing! You have some great goals, many of which I have this month too! Have you looked into the Mac external backup port? I don’t know what it’s called but it’s about $150 and it backs up all computers everyday. No need to plug in, it’s on the network and after setting it up, it does all the work for you.

    1. Leah, I almost wish I could bottle this feeling up. Soon, we’ll settle into a routine and summer will be gone in a flash! That’s definitely a cool thing you are talking about. I have an external hard drive on my Mac, but you plug it in. I’ll have to look into what you are talking about! 🙂

  11. This June, one of my goals is to work out three times a week at the gym as well. With busy days in the office, it’s getting harder to find enough energy to exert for exercise after work hours. Drinking water over soda is way better. 🙂 My goal is to finish at least 2L of water every day!

    1. That’s a great goal to have! I should also add in an amount of water to aim for every day. I’m so glad you stopped by today – thank you!

  12. These are definitely some great goals to have this month! On my goal list I also have heading to the gym at least 3 times a day. I haven’t been for a few weeks and I’m definitely hurting from it today 🙂 Keep it up!

    1. Wow! 3 times a day? That’s amazing! I’ll be lucky if I can workout at least once a day! You go, Mama! Thanks for stopping by today 🙂

  13. Totally love your goals this month! I always try to write my goals down but usually loose the list. I need to do a blog post so that its always in one place. Thanks for the motivation 🙂

  14. hi breanna! these are pretty much my goals too! i love trips but always plan at the very last minute! and my desktop is covered with files ahhh!! =)

  15. I did a soda fast in February and it was amazing! I felt so much better and when I picked up a soda a month later, I couldn’t believe how sweet it was! Good luck!

    1. That is so promising, Chelsie. I’m really hoping I feel the effects so I can say goodbye to soda for GOOD! Thanks so much for stopping by today!

  16. I want to cut drinking soda as well this month but I know it’s going to be impossible because I get migraines and drinking soda sometimes helps it. I also need to organize my stuff on my computer but its so much work lol

    1. Jasmine, as a long-time migraine sufferer, I am so sorry! I totally understand how devastating they are – and if caffeine helps, then you do what you’ve got to do! Thank you for stopping by today!

  17. If I had to write my goals this month they’d be the same as you – although I’d swap the workout for brisk school runs twice a day! I’m the same as you with the organising of photos – and I always run out of space on my computer because of it!

  18. I love goal setting and I love that you are blogging about your goals. It really helps with accountability! I too have been working out and taking time for myself. I think I am going to write my goals down starting now! Thanks for the motivation!

    1. It totally helps with accountability! I’m glad you’ve been taking some time for yourself – there is nothing wrong with that 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

  19. We have very similar goals this month. I am trying to do a little bit of activity everyday with the blogilates videos. There’s a beginners calendar that I’m following so I have no excuse to NOT do the work! Ack! Anyway, I have cut WAY back on soda… less than 1 a day. I used to drink WAY more.

    1. Same here! I always put it off until it becomes absolutely unbearable, and then I kick myself for not keeping up with it. Haha. Story of my life 🙂

  20. I love how you set monthly goals, I should really do that too. I should follow in your footsteps too and workout more and quit the fizzy drinks – summer always makes me want to drink cloudy lemonade though 🙁 Best of luck with all your goals, I hope you’re able to tick them all off and have a great June 🙂

  21. Great goal setting! MY summer goals is to capture all my summer travels effectively on my blog so I can be invited on more press trips. You can do it with the NO SODA…trust me once you go a month you will realize you arent missing out!

  22. The soda one is great! I need to do that.I’ve been cutting back but I probably should just go cold turkey! And I am totally with you about organizing the files! Oe of my goals this month is to establish work hours for my blogging that my family respects and then I close the computer and walk away. I can get lost on th old internet.
