The DockATot: A Review

Happy Monday, friends! I know we tend to shy away from putting those two words together in a sentence, let alone side by side, but at least it’s almost over…right? This post has been a long time coming and one that I have been looking forward to writing. If you know me, you already know that I’m a baby product enthusiast. I absolutely love to find and try new gadgets and gizmos that are marketed for babies, toddlers, and children. As parents, I feel that it is so important that we help each other out and lift each other up. If I can help or recommend a product that will make life just a little bit easier for even one person, then I’m going to shout it from the rooftops loud and clear.

Well, I’ve found another one of those products…and I can’t wait to tell you all about it. Allow me to introduce you to what we like to call the “Sleep Miracle”. Yes. My husband actually calls it that – and he is probably one of the most critical and skeptical people I know. Really. Haha. Enter: The DockATot.

The DockATot: A Review

I have had my sights set on these beauties since my pregnancy with our youngest, Finn. We have always used a Rock n’ Play with our babies from birth until around 7 months old. With each of our 3 boys, we have noticed that when we tried to transition them from the Rock n’ Play (which is slightly inclined and cozy) to the flat bare crib mattress, it didn’t go well. Go well, as in…not sleep. At all. Not even for a few minutes.

As two working parents, we were sleep deprived and desperate. So, we began safely cosleeping with our oldest when he was around 9 months old. We followed that trend with our 2nd son, Luca. Jonah will be 4 in December and is actually sleeping pretty well in his very own twin bed. Luca was cosleeping with us when Finn was born, and Finn was sleeping beside our bed in the Rock n’ Play. Finn is currently 6 months old and can no longer safely sleep in the Rock n’ Play due to his size. Even when strapped in, he came close to rolling out ONE time. Thank goodness we were right there. That was the day I made up my mind and pursued the DockATot.

The DockATot: A Review

The DockATot is exactly what it’s name portrays: a safe, cozy place to “dock” your tot. The DockATot comes in two sizes: the deluxe and grand. It is recommended that babies 0 – 8 months of age use the deluxe, while babies 9 – 36 months use the grand.

With Finn approaching the 7 month mark, I opted to order the grand since he will get the most use out of it. When it came, however, I quickly realized just how HUGE it is!

The DockATot is meant to mimic the “squished” feeling in a mother’s womb, so it is supposed to have more of a snug fit. I quickly realized Finn wouldn’t have that feeling in the larger dock, so middle brother Luca got to claim the larger-sized dock.

I kid you not, Luca began sleeping through the night the first night we used it. It’s been a little over a month, and we are still going strong. When we tried transitioning Luca to his crib, he would only sleep for around 2-3 hours and then wake up. After that, he would wake every 30 minutes or so all night long. We tried out the dock in his crib, and haven’t looked back. We can even put him to bed awake, and he will fall asleep on his own. It has seriously been life changing!

After we realized how much it affected Luca’s sleep habits, it was a no-brainer to go ahead and order the smaller size for Finn. Many parents have reported being able to use the smaller size for longer than 8 months. Each DockATot has a clasp that can add length to the dock for extended use.

One of the most comforting features of the DockATot is that is has been tested for air-permeability and is 100% breathable. Finn has great mobility now and can roll in all directions. Although we always put him to sleep on his back, he tends to roll sometimes in the middle of the night. I am a light sleeper and check on him constantly, moving him when he does this. It is so comforting to know that he is sleeping in a breathable environment. The DockATot can also be used for safe cosleeping directly in your bed.

Each DockATot cover is machine washable and can easily be removed from the dock. They wash up nicely and look brand new!

While I am being 100% open and honest, the DockATot is not cheap. They are pricey…but for our situation have been worth every penny. Our lives have changed for the better the moment we began using these docks…and our kiddos are sleeping better than they ever have. Both Finn and Luca are now sleeping around 12 hours at night without waking – something that NEVER happened prior to using them.

They are a great lounge pillow as well. The boys like to use them on movie nights especially! I personally feel like these are a wonderful investment for the long run. They can be used for a long time and for multiple facets. Even at 6 months old with awesome head control, Finn loves using his for tummy time. The soft pillow is ideal for babies to use during tummy time!

Feel free to check out the DockATot website to learn more about this product. It truly has worked wonders for our kiddos’ sleeping habits. If you have any questions, please voice them in the comments below!
